A teacher at a religious school in Terengganu has been charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child, a week after he faced similar charges in Pasir Mas, Kelantan.
Aswadi Yah, 46, pleaded not guilty after being charged before Kuala Terengganu sessions court judge Wan Nor Aklima Wan Salleh today, Bernama reported.
He was charged with committing physical sexual assault on a 14-year-old boy at a house on Jalan Pantai Batu Rakit, Kampung Mengabang Telong, at 9pm on Feb 15.
The charges, framed under Sections 14(a) and 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, are punishable by a maximum of 20 years in jail and whipping if convicted.
He was allowed to post bail at RM18,000 with one surety. The case will be mentioned again on Nov 5.
The accused, who was represented by lawyer Irwan Sumadi, had also been charged in the Pasir Mas sessions court on Sept 11 with seven counts of physical sexual assault on a male student and the possession of obscene images.
Aswadi, the headmaster of a “pondok” or community religious school, had also claimed trial to those charges.
