IPOH, Sept 18 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), in collaboration with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), reached out to underprivileged new students across Besut, Setiu and Kuala Terengganu to ensure they are well-prepared for the upcoming academic session.
The programme, held from Sept 15 to 17, also featured the presentation of the MOHE Yayasan Perkasa Siswa’s Early Education Assistance, aimed at helping ease the financial burden on students’ families ahead of the student intake on Sept 27 and 28.
MOHE Higher Education Department Student Affairs Division director Hirman Awang @ Semail said the initiative was the brainchild of Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, aimed at ensuring that students in need do not drop out of their studies.
“MOHE aims to ensure that prospective students can continue their studies successfully, and this moral support is particularly important for those leaving their families for the first time.
“We hope this visit will serve as a motivation, helping students gain confidence in facing the challenges of campus life, while the Early Education Assistance is expected to help ease the financial burden on their families,” he said in a statement today.
Izzah Syahirah Abdul Hamid Albakri, 20, who has been offered a Bachelor’s Degree in Malaysian Studies with Education, said the assistance provided crucial support for her registration at UPSI.
Another recipient, 20-year-old Nurul Aleeya Maisarah Abdullah, who will pursue a bachelor’s in Islamic education, expressed her gratitude for MOHE’s concern and assistance.
Meanwhile, UPSI deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof Dr Norkhalid Salimin, said the university would be conducting the programme nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak, from Sept 12 to 21, to identify and assist students in need.
