JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 18 — Johor is expected to produce nine million litres of fresh milk per year by next year, an increase of around 10 per cent of the country’s current output.
Johor Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip said the effort will be driven by productivity at the Jemaluang Dairy Valley (JDV) Complex in Mersing.
“Johor currently produces around 6.4 million litres of milk per year. With JDV’s operation, the production rate will increase to nine million litres of milk per year.
“Following that, the output will then be increased to between 13 and 15 million litres of milk by 2027,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page today.
Zahari shared the latest progress on the state’s milk production after visiting and being briefed at JDV’s premises yesterday.
JDV is a fresh and recombined milk processing plant located in Mersing and is expected to start operations by the end of this year.
Zahari said JDV’s operations would not only increase the state’s milk production but also serve as a collection centre for fresh milk from surrounding dairy farmers.
“JDV is an example of the strategic initiative resulting from collaboration between the state government and the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC),” he said.
The Buloh Kasap assemblyman said about 1,000 dairy cows will be brought in from Australia in stages to fill the initial phase of JDV’s operations starting this October.
He said once operational, the project will be managed by Jemaluang Dairy Valley Sdn Bhd (JDVSB), a joint venture between Kulim (Malaysia) Berhad (Kulim) and A2 Fresh Holdings Sdn Bhd (A2FHSB).
“This is in line with the state government’s initiative to increase contributions to the productivity of the milk industry,” he said, adding that it was also to ensure national food security.
