MUAR: An unemployed man was arrested for injuring his 70-year-old father and subsequently setting fire to his house in Kampung Tengah.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the 32-year-old suspect set fire to the senior man’s house along Jalan Bakri at around 9.43am on Wednesday (Sept 17).

The fire also damaged a car and a motorcycle.

“Before the fire, the suspect also hit and whipped his father with a cane and a knife, and he has to be sent to Hospital Muar.

“The suspect was later arrested, where he tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 18).

He added that the suspect, who suffered minor injuries, is also suspected of having mental health issues.

The case is being investigated under Section 436 and Section 324 of the Penal Code respectively for mischief by fire and voluntarily causing hurt, he added.
