KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) — The Fifth Hunan Tourism Development Conference was held in Huaihua from Sept 16 to 18, spotlighting the province’s latest strides in cultural tourism and launching new high-quality projects to fuel sustainable, high-value development.
In a statement, the organising committee of the conference said Hunan has elevated tourism to a strategic pillar and livelihood industry, integrating it into its “4×4” modern industrial system.
The province continues to push forward its ambition to become a culturally strong province and world-class tourism destination, supported by robust policy frameworks that have helped double the output of the cultural and creative tourism sectors.
The conference adopted an innovative model of “hosting conferences to boost urban development, drive industrial growth, and benefit the people”, with emphasis on the integration of technology and culture.
For the first time, the event combined the opening ceremony with an investment and financing session, encouraging market-orientated transformation of the conference model and linking tourism resources with capital.
The event brought together leading enterprises, investment institutions and online travel agencies (OTAs) to explore new development pathways for the cultural and tourism industry.
As the host city, Huaihua capitalised on its role as a national transportation hub and regional centre at the intersection of five provinces to strengthen the “Three Xiangs and Four Rivers · Meet in Hunan” brand.
Huaihua recorded 31.73 million tourist visits in the first half of 2025, generating 29.88 billion Chinese yuan in tourism revenue, with both indicators rising more than 10 per cent year-on-year. (100 Chinese yuan = RM59.03)
Capitalising on the momentum, Huaihua is fast-tracking its “One Axis and Four Points” cultural tourism development strategy, promoting regional integration through the “Hezhong Integration” project, and accelerating urban renewal efforts to strengthen its brand as “Huaihua, a blessed land where you belong”.
