World mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei edged past their Indonesian rivals Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu to book a quarter-final berth at the China Masters in Shenzhen today.
The world No 3 pair had to battle for 63 minutes in their second-round match before overcoming the world No 12 duo 21-13, 13-21, 21-16 at the Shenzhen Arena.
The Malaysians have now beaten their Indonesian opponents in all four of their meetings so far.
However, compatriots and world No 8 pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai were knocked out by Taiwan’s Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan in a 6-21, 21-16, 12-21 defeat.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei will face either Jesper Toft-Amalie Magelund of Denmark or Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet in the quarter-finals.
The Malaysians hold winning records against both pairs.
The Super 750 event is key for Tang Jie-Ee Wei as they aim to back up their World Championships triumph in Paris last month and secure their first BWF World Tour title of the season.
The China Masters carries a total prize purse of US$1.25 million (RM5.24 million), with doubles champions earning US$92,500 (RM387,624) and quarter-finalists US$4,062 (RM17,021).
