New immigration system trial starts

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry will begin a five-month trial of the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) at key entry points from Sept 22 to Feb 28 next year.

The pilot programme will start at the Sultan Abu Bakar and Sultan Iskandar Building Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complexes in Johor before expanding to five international airports, including Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminals 1 and 2.

The others are the Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu international airports.

“During the trial period, the QR Code system and MyBorderPass application will continue to be used,” said the Home Ministry.

“However, the public, including foreign visitors, are encouraged to download the MyNIISe application.”

The app is available on the App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei App Gallery.

The ministry reminded travellers that valid passports remained mandatory.

“At the end of the trial period, the NIISe system will replace the QR code system.”

The ministry described NIISe as one of the key initiatives under the government’s reform agenda to boost automated security screening.
