KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno Batu division’s political bureau has announced it will cut ties with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Batu and Federal Territories.
Division chief Datuk Gulam Muszaffar said the decision was prompted by what he described as “biased” treatment of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Federal Territories, where they were not accorded due respect as partners in the unity government.
“A quota for the residents’ representative council that was initially allocated to Umno was given to PH instead.
“Not only that, but every time Umno organises a programme, we never get an allocation from the member of Parliament.
“If you want to be friends, act like friends. Instead, they are trying to interfere even with a quota that is our right,” claimed the Umno Federal Territories information chief when contacted today.
Gulam said the Batu Umno division had previously met with the political secretary to the Federal Territories minister to discuss the renewal of residents’ representative council appointments and quota distribution.
Following the meeting, it was agreed that BN would receive one council quota for each parliamentary constituency, a decision later formalised in an official circular.
“However, the opposite happened when the Federal Territories minister gave all six quotas to PH,” he claimed, adding that BN‘s quota should not have been touched.
“If they want to distribute five quotas to anyone in PKR, that is their right, but why interfere with BN’s quota? That is clearly unfair,” he said.
Earlier, Gulam posted on Facebook that he had submitted a resignation letter to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, stepping down from the board of trustees of Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, which she chairs.
