A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of posting a defamatory video on Facebook related to the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.
Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun said police received a report from a member of the public on Sept 13 about the viral video, which contained defamatory elements and revealed the identity of a minor. He said it also involved the improper use of network facilities.
The suspect was arrested at 5.40pm on Sept 16, and two mobile phones were seized from him.
The case is being investigated under Sections 203A and 500 of the Penal Code, Section 15 of the Child Act 2001, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Jauteh advised the public to use social media responsibly and refrain from making defamatory, humiliating, or provocative statements.
He cautioned that the police would not tolerate any misuse of social media platforms.
