PUTRAJAYA, Sept 17 (Bernama) — The Home Ministry’s (KDN) reforms, under the leadership of its Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, have had a major impact on the preparedness of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) through upgrades and new assets.
MMEA director-general Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said in a statement today that the KDN’s emphasis on the agency’s asset capabilities clearly shows the government’s support for strengthening the country’s maritime operations.
“KDN pays serious attention to Malaysia’s maritime capabilities. With the addition of assets, patrols can be enhanced and maritime criminal activities can be combated more effectively,” he said at a ceremony to mark his one-year tenure as the agency’s director-general here today.
According to him, the strength of the new assets proves that the KDN’s reforms are translated into field action and not just policy statements.
“This is a catalyst for the MMEA’s operations to continue safeguarding the country’s waters. The MMEA will ensure that every asset is fully utilised in the interests of the people and the country,” he said.
Previously, Policy and Economic Affairs Centre of Malaysia Foundation (PEACE) president Mohd Jamizal Zainol, on a podcast, said Saifuddin Nasution’s leadership is capable of managing the most complex ministry involving more than 50 laws and 10 agencies under its purview.
Meanwhile, Mohd Rosli also stressed that as the maritime security agency under the KDN, the MMEA will continue to be at the forefront in safeguarding the security and sovereignty of the country’s waters.
“Maritime challenges are becoming increasingly complex with activities such as smuggling, human trafficking, cross-border crime, and even the safety of local fishing communities.
“The MMEA is committed to ensuring that every inch of the country’s waters remains safe, and will continue to strengthen its assets, personnel, and operations in line with the aspirations of the ministry (KDN),” he also said.
He added that with the support of the people and cooperation from all parties, the agency is confident of being able to advance further as the country’s maritime shield that is respected internationally.
