QuickCheck: Did a motorcyclist smash a Pengkalan Chepa stall's display cabinet in a fit of road rage?

INCIDENTS of road rage often involve two or more individuals getting hot under the collar over various traffic snaffles, though sometimes inanimate objects become targets of enraged road users.

This seems to be the case in a video making the rounds on social media, where a motorcyclist can be seen smashing a restaurant’s glass display case with his helmet.

Did such an incident happen in Pengkalan Chepa, , as alleged in comments and captions on the viral video?

Kota Baru OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rosdi Daud confirmed the incident, saying that it stemmed from the motorcyclist’s dissatisfaction with the cars parked in front of the restaurant, online portal Majoriti reported.

ACP Mohd Rosdi said that in the 3.15pm Monday (Sept 15) incident, the motorcyclist had used a helmet to smash the restaurant’s food cabinet glass.

“The Kota Baru District Police Headquarters received a report about the incident from a 25-year-old man, who is also the restaurant owner, at 7:15pm on Monday.

“The police also detected a video recording uploaded on Facebook that went viral on Tuesday (Sept 16),” he said in a media statement on Wednesday (Sept 17).

He added that the suspect had been detained by a team from the Kota Baru Criminal Investigation Department at 1am Wednesday.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for vandalism, and the suspect has been remanded to assist.
