KOTA KINABALU: The late Zara Qairina Mahathir cried and denied stealing anything before she was last seen heading to the toilet.
The inquest’s eighth witness, Azahari Abd Sagap, said he had received scanned copies of written confessions from five students.
The 31-year-old SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha chief warden said the documents were produced after he instructed wardens to conduct an internal investigation on July 16, following Zara’s admission to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
“…A Form 1 student lodged a complaint with a dormitory leader that she had lost her belongings.
“After that, Zara was called by the dormitory leader and asked whether she had stolen the items. She denied it and swore ‘wallahi‘,” he told Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan.
Azahari said students also searched Zara’s locker and bag, and found the dorm leader’s Jalur Gemilang pin.
Once again, Zara denied taking it.
“After that, Zara left the room crying and shouting, ‘Aku tidak mencuri bah, bodoh‘ (I didn’t steal, stupid). I was told about this from a Form 1 student.
“She went out of the room crying and into the toilet. That was the last time the students saw her,” he said.
