Selangor banking on home record to collect full points

KUALA LUMPUR: are banking on their solid home record as they take on Thai side Bangkok United in their AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2) clash at the MBPJ Stadium tomorrow evening.

The Red Giants are unbeaten at home this season, winning three matches in the FA Cup and the Super League but coach Katsuhito Kinoshi said that the advantage would mean nothing if his players cannot secure full points.

Kinoshi hinted that he would be fielding his strongest line-up, meaning no player is guaranteed a place despite there being no foreign player restrictions in ACL2.

“We will play 100 per cent to win and target qualification for the next round. Statistically, every team has an advantage playing at home. We have that advantage, but it depends on us. We should not overthink it. Our focus should be on how we play,” said the Japanese coach in the pre match press conference.

“We don’t have 11 imports, but even if we did, I would only pick the best and those ready to play this match. So, it doesn’t matter whether you are a foreigner or a local. If you perform well, you can make the starting eleven.”

Meanwhile, defender Kevin Deeromram believes his team is capable of getting a positive result when they take on Thai League 1 runners-up Bangkok United.

Deeromram said Selangor’s 1-1 draw with Thai champions Buriram United in their Asean Club Championship match last month, is a sign that the Red Giants have what it takes to compete with Bangkok United, who are regarded as the second-best team in Thailand.

“We managed a draw against Buriram previously and that showed we can compete with strong teams from Thailand.

“So, it’s not impossible for us to get a positive result against Bangkok United tomorrow,” said the Thai international.

According to him, all the players are in high spirits and determined to make the most of their home advantage.

“We are fully prepared. Tomorrow’s match will be tough, but with discipline, focus and the support of the fans, I am confident we can deliver our best performance.”
