KOTA BHARU: Police have arrested four Myanmar nationals, including a married couple, on suspicion of murdering their countryman in a workers’ quarters near the Sonchong farm in Gua Musang on Wednesday (Sept 17).

police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspects, aged between 30 and 46, have been remanded for seven days from Tuesday (Sept 16).

“A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided a workers’ quarters in the Ulu Galas Permanent Forest Reserve in Gua Musang and arrested four Myanmar nationals – three men and a woman – at about 7.30am on Tuesday.

“The murder is believed to have occurred due to jealousy because the victim allegedly hugged the female suspect,” he said during a media conference at the Police Headquarters here.

Mohd Yusoff said checks also found that all four suspects failed to produce any valid travel documents.

“All four are being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid travel documents,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, Mohd Yusoff said three family members aged between 19 and 60 were arrested after police seized Yaba pills and ketum leaves worth an estimated RM1.6 million on Sept 10.

“We raided a house near Mukim Pauh Panji here and arrested a man and two women after discovering 18 yellowish paper packages suspected to contain Yaba pills weighing 12.02 kilogrammes and 150 clear plastic packages believed to contain ketum leaves.

“All the suspects have been remanded for two weeks from Sept 11. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952,” he said. – Bernama
