Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has been told to redesign the electrical infrastructure at KLIA Terminal 2 to remove the risk of further power outages, transport minister Loke Siew Fook said today.
KLIA Terminal 2 experienced a temporary power disruption late last month due to an issue involving one of its cables.
While the blackout did not affect airport operations, Loke said then that the 28 minutes it took to restore electricity was “very long and difficult to accept”.
He also instructed MAHB to review the entire electrical infrastructure at KLIA.
Today, Loke said he had received a full report on the power outage from the airport operator.
“MAHB needs to redesign its electrical infrastructure so that a blackout doesn’t recur,” he told reporters after unveiling the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia’s (CAAM) new corporate identity.
Separately, Loke said CAAM had absorbed most of the Malaysian Aviation Commission’s (Mavcom) staff, as previously agreed.
“Some of them have not been given offers, likely due to age or dissatisfaction with the packages offered,” he said, adding that his ministry had tried its best to offer them good emolument packages.
Loke also said CAAM was in no hurry to fill the vacancies on its new board as it was looking for suitable and competent individuals.
“(The vacancies) will certainly be discussed with CAAM chairman Sharil Tarmizi,” he said.
CAAM absorbed the functions of Mavcom effective Aug 1.
Through the merger with Mavcom, CAAM is now the sole regulator for technical, safety and economic matters in the aviation sector.
