KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd worker was swept away by strong currents while performing duty in a Keningau village late Tuesday night.
The utility company confirmed rescue teams and relevant authorities have been deployed to conduct search operations in the affected area.
“Our priority now is the safety and well-being of the staff member while providing full support to his family,“ Sabah Electricity stated in an official release.
The company pledged continued cooperation with authorities throughout the rescue operation and promised updates as the situation develops.
Sabah Electricity also requested all parties respect the sensitivity of the situation and allow the victim’s family privacy during this difficult time.
A viral social media video earlier showed the company’s four-wheel-drive vehicle trapped in powerful floodwaters during the incident.
The team was reportedly conducting repair work after the village experienced a power supply disruption.
Keningau is an interior district located approximately 110 kilometres south of Kota Kinabalu.
He said the department received a report of the incident at 9.47 pm and arrived at the scene in Kampung Nuntunan, Apin-Apin, Keningau, at 10.24 pm.
“We received a report of a victim feared drowned after being swept away by floodwaters while trying to cross a bridge. He was last seen wearing a Sabah Electricity vest.
“Three Sabah Electricity workers were involved in the incident. Two managed to escape, while one was swept away by the floodwaters,” he said.– Bernama
