KUALA LUMPUR: Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB)’s unit, PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd, has unveiled the upgraded neighbourhood park at Perumahan Awam Seri Sarawak, the second park under the Merdeka 118 public realm improvement programme.
The initiative, carried out with Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Think City, is part of the Warisan KL agenda to revitalise the capital’s heritage.
Spanning about 16,000 sq ft and located less than one kilometre from Menara Merdeka 118, the park serves more than 7,500 residents.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif said the project demonstrated how public and private collaboration could benefit residents.
“Our elderly now have space to stay active, while families and children can enjoy a safe and welcoming place.
“Initiatives like this bring us closer to realising our vision of ‘A Prosperous City for All’ by 2030,” she said.
The Seri Sarawak park upgrade focused on transforming an underused neighbourhood space into a vibrant shared community hub.
With an investment of about RM800,000, the project features children’s play areas, shaded seating, safer lighting, landscaped gardens, improved walkways and drainage, as well as new community spaces.
The commitment to sustainable methods was also a key focus, with the use of durable, low-maintenance materials, native plant landscaping and permeable pavements for stormwater management.
PNB Merdeka Ventures chief executive officer Tengku Datuk Ab Aziz Tengku Mahmud said the first park in Jalan Hang Tuah had benefited more than 800 residents and become a lively community space.
“Building on that success, we are bringing the same spirit to Seri Sarawak, ensuring Merdeka 118 develops in harmony with surrounding neighbourhoods as part of the wider Warisan KL initiative,” he said.
