NEW YORK, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.68 percent to 96.639 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1871 dollars from 1.1769 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.3662 dollars from 1.3605 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 146.40 Japanese yen, lower than 147.32 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.7864 Swiss francs from 0.7942 Swiss francs, and it fell to 1.3738 Canadian dollars from 1.3778 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar slipped to 9.2199 Swedish kronor from 9.2722 Swedish kronor.
