KOTA BHARU, Sept 16 —The Public Works Department (JKR) has applied for federal funding to carry out urgent repair works on a damaged stretch of the Kota Bharu–Gua Musang trunk road, where severe cracks due to soil movements have compromised the road’s structural integrity.

As reported by Harian Metro (HM), the department’s director, Nik Soh Yaacoub, said the road between the Machang flyover and Simpang Tiga Kemuning has been fully closed to all vehicles as it now poses a serious safety risk to road users.

Previously, only one lane had been closed following a culvert collapse that occurred several weeks ago.

“However, after continuous monitoring, we found that the cracks have widened significantly, prompting JKR to implement a full road closure for safety reasons.

“We have conducted a structural assessment and confirmed that the ground in the affected area is no longer stable.

“For the safety of road users, this stretch must remain closed until repair works are completed,” he told HM.

As a temporary measure, motorists are advised to use the alternative route via Bandar Machang Lama to reach their destination, either towards Kuala Krai–Gua Musang or Kuala Krai–Kota Bharu.
