Malaysia Day Walk Promotes Unity In Taman Lucky, Bangsar

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 (Bernama) — In celebration of Malaysia Day, over a hundred residents of Taman Lucky, Bangsar, gathered today for the ‘Malaysia Day Walk’ – an initiative aimed at promoting unity and strengthening ties within the multicultural community.

Organised by the Taman Lucky Residents Association, the event kicked off at 6.45 am at Jalan Tempinis 5. Participants, filled with enthusiasm, began with a warm-up session before receiving a briefing.

At 7.30 am, they embarked on a scenic walk that spanned over three kilometers through the neighbourhood.

Taman Lucky Residents Association chairperson K. Sarikha, shared that this annual event is not only an inclusive initiative but also a celebration of patriotism.

“For Malaysia Day, many are unsure of how to commemorate it. Unlike Merdeka Day, where parades are expected, we hold this walking event where participants wave the Malaysian flag, and the spirit is truly palpable,” she told Bernama.

Throughout the walk, the sight of participants proudly waving the Jalur Gemilang added a patriotic flair to the event. The diverse crowd included people from all walks of life, with representatives from government agencies such as the police (PDRM) and the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) lending their support.

Meanwhile, Thaqif Ramadhan Shamsul Ariffin, 18, from Pantai Dalam, reflected on the importance of the event in fostering unity across ethnic groups, while also keeping the history of Malaysia’s independence alive for future generations.

“This programme allows us to reflect on how Malaysia was formed. While many remember Aug 31, the formation of Malaysia on Sept 16 is equally significant, and this event helps remind us of that,” he added.

For Bangsar resident Susie Wong, 65, the event represents more than just a walk.

“Malaysia is a colourful country, and we are proud to be Malaysians. Every year, we come together as a community, walk proudly with our flags, and celebrate our unity in diversity,” she said with pride.

As the participants reached the finish line at Kebun-Kebun Bangsar at 8.15 am, the morning culminated in a heartfelt rendition of Negaraku, the Federal Territories state anthem, and other patriotic songs, including Tanggal 31 Ogos, adding a ceremonial touch to the event.

This celebration was made possible through the collaboration of the Taman Lucky Neighbourhood Watch Area (KRT), Lembah Pantai-Sub Zone 2 Federal Territory Residents Representative Council (MPPWP), and NGO Ismaili Civic.
