KAJANG, Sept 16 — A security guard died after he was attacked by an acquaintance during a fight in a residential area in Semenyih early yesterday morning.
According to Harian Metro, the 38-year-old victim, who sustained injuries to his hands and body, was pronounced dead at Kajang Hospital.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said police were first alerted to the incident at 1.13am by a lorry driver who reported a dispute involving the victim, who was also his friend.
“The 37-year-old man claimed he had been drinking in a field in a housing estate in Semenyih when a fight broke out, during which he injured his finger after being struck with a sharp object.
“Following the incident, the complainant and four friends left the area,” Naazron said in a statement this morning.
However, he said some of the complainant’s friends were reportedly still upset and returned to the victim’s residence at around 4.30am that same morning.
“Upon arrival, one of them immediately attacked the victim with a sharp weapon, inflicting injuries to his hands and body.
“The victim was rushed to hospital but was later confirmed dead. A post-mortem is scheduled for 9am today,” he said.
Following the incident, police arrested five men aged between 31 and 37 believed to be involved in the case, and seized the weapon used in the attack.
Naazron added that background checks revealed four of the suspects had prior records involving criminal and drug-related offences, while the victim had seven previous criminal records.
All suspects will be remanded for further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Members of the public with information on the case are urged to contact Investigating Officer Assistant Superintendent Ong Eng Yew at 012-696 6849 or visit the nearest police station.
