JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 16 (Bernama) — The second train for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project is expected to arrive at the Wadi Hana Depot at the end of September after completing testing at the CRRC facility in Batu Gajah, Perak.
RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) chief executive officer Dr Ahmad Marzuki Ariffin said the train will be the first set to be brought into the depot for the next series of tests.
“The first RTS train is still in Singapore undergoing the Offsite Systems Integration Test (OSIT) after being unveiled during the launch ceremony in late June in Singapore.
“The train is expected to be brought to the Wadi Hana Depot in the second half of November,” he told Bernama when contacted.
Wadi Hana Depot is the future train maintenance and operations facility of the RTS Link located in Wadi Hana, here, about one kilometre north of Bukit Chagar RTS Link Station, away from the main line connecting Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North Station in Singapore.
Overall, the RTS Link project involves eight train sets, with the second to eighth trains in the final stages of production at the Batu Gajah CRRC facility before being progressively delivered to Johor Bahru by the end of 2025.
Ahmad Marzuki said as of the end of August, the rail system works had achieved nearly 61 per cent progress, with most of the system testing completed, while the focus is now on installation and on-site testing.
“Compared with infrastructure works, system development has its own differences as it involves technical aspects and operational integration,” he said.
Among the main challenges at present is ensuring smooth coordination of works at the project site, given that in addition to RTS Operations, infrastructure works are also being carried out simultaneously.
The four-kilometre project, which links Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore, is expected to be completed in December 2026 and begin operations in early 2027.
The rail transport system is projected to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with an estimated daily ridership of around 40,000.
