KUALA LUMPUR: Penang swept aside Melaka on Monday to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals for the third straight season.
Carrying a 2-0 advantage from the first leg of their last-16 tie, the Panthers cruised to a 3-0 win in the return leg at City Stadium to seal a 5-0 aggregate victory.
Stefano Brundo opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Haziq Kutty Abba doubled their lead in the 39th to put the tie beyond Melaka’s reach.
A tense moment came in the 78th minute when OJ Porteria was sent off after a VAR review, reducing Penang to 10 men.
But the setback did little to slow them, as Tchetche Kipre struck just two minutes later to wrap up a commanding 3-0 win.
Penang will face either Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) or UM-Damansara United in the last eight.
