KOTA BARU: All Fire and Rescue Department stations nationwide have been placed on standby following the current spell of heavy rain and strong winds.

Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohamad said all personnel had been instructed to remain fully prepared to respond to emergencies, especially during the inter-monsoon transition period.

“Of course, all personnel must always be ready, and all fire stations have been placed on alert to deal with possible floods, landslides or other disasters caused by the changing weather,” he said.

On the floods and landslides in Sabah, Nor Hisham said the department has no plans to deploy additional assistance to the state.

“At the moment, we have no plans to do so. The situation there is being handled by local rescue teams,” he said.

It was reported that continuous heavy rain triggered flash floods in several parts of Sabah and also a landslide in Sepanggar, prompting emergency response efforts across the affected areas.

In Papar, the District Disaster Management Committee officially declared a disaster situation earlier today following severe flooding in the area.
