KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — The number of flood victims in four states, particularly Sabah, continue to rise this afternoon, with several temporary relief centres (PPS) opened as heavy rain persisted.
In SABAH, the State Disaster Management Committee said 863 people from 220 families had been evacuated, compared to 415 people from 113 families reported this morning. The victims are from 36 villages across Penampang, Beaufort, Membakut and Tawau.
Four additional PPS were from 10 am, namely Dewan Masyarakat Papar, Dewan PPR Sri Keramat Putatan, as well as PPS Kampung Sarapung and Dewan Inobong in Penampang. The number of evacuees is being updated.
In PERAK, the number of evacuees in Muallim rose to 194 people from 48 families as of 4 pm, up from 131 people earlier at 2pm.
District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Sabli Bakri said a new PPS was opened at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Pauh, Behrang Stesen at 6 pm, following flooding in nearby areas.
In NEGERI SEMBILAN, 50 people from 13 families are now housed at Balai Raya Kampung Jimah Lama, up from 33 people this morning.
Civil Defence officer Captain (PA) Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamed Buniran said water levels are receding, but flooding continues in low-lying homes near the river.
In SELANGOR, two PPS were opened today at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Serai in Hulu Langat with 19 evacuees, and Dewan Orang Ramai Hulu Bernam in Hulu Selangor with 14, according to the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal. — Bernama
