PAS opens doors wider: Non-Muslim supporters gain official party membership

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — Members of ‘s Non-Muslim Supporters Wing (DHPP) have been formally absorbed into the party under a new category of associate membership, secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announced today.

Speaking at ‘ 71st annual congress in Kedah, the Kota Bharu MP said the Registrar of Societies (ROS) approved constitutional changes last month to pave the way for the move, which lifts the party’s total membership to 1.3 million, according to a Malaysiakini report today.

Under Article 10 of the revised constitution, Takiyuddin explained, anyone aged 18 or above who is Malaysian and adheres to a faith other than can apply as an associate member.

“All DHPP members, who were previously recognised only as ‘friends of PAS’, are now automatically absorbed into this new category,” he added.

Takiyuddin also said the change elevates DHPP to the same standing as other official party wings, joining As-Sabiqun (veterans) and the three existing wings.
