KUALA LUMPUR:

Around 400 people faced a harrowing ordeal after being caught in a water surge incident while camping at the Kerling Hot Springs recreation centre in Kuala Kubu Bharu early this morning.

fire and rescue department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received the emergency call at 5.47am.

He said a fire engine from the Kuala Kubu Bharu fire and rescue station, with six personnel, was dispatched to the scene 20km away and arrived at 6.11am.

“The water reportedly started rising around 3am, trapping holidaymakers who were camping and picnicking in the area.

“All the victims were safe and were guided to higher ground under the supervision of fire personnel,” he said in a statement today.

Mukhlis said rescue efforts to evacuate all trapped victims are currently under way.
