ALOR STAR: Pas Youth has backed party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s view that any prime minister candidate from the party must be under 70 years old.
Pas Youth deputy chief Mohd Hafez Sabri said Hadi’s remarks signalled the party’s seriousness in offering fresh leadership for the country.
“Although the statement was brief, it delivers a strong message about Pas‘ commitment to move beyond ‘recycled’ or veteran figures and instead present candidates who are capable, fresh, and competitive.
“Young people especially welcome this because it shows Pas is open to giving space to the next generation of leaders who have the potential to shoulder the responsibility of national leadership,” he said in a statement today.
Hafez, who is also the Manjoi assemblyman, said the stance reflected not only political wisdom but also the party’s determination to champion change and a new era of leadership in Malaysia.
“This step will boost public confidence that Pas is not just a party of the past but also a party of the future, ready to lead Malaysia with dynamic, progressive leadership firmly rooted in Islamic principles,” he added.
Earlier, Hadi ruled himself out as prime minister should Perikatan Nasional win the next general election, citing age and health factors.
He also stressed that the role should be held by a knowledgeable, capable and trustworthy person, preferably under the age of 70.
