Political Party Leader Arrested Over Commotion In Kampung Sungai Baru 


KUALA LUMPUR,  Sept 15 (Bernama) — A leader of a political party from was arrested early today in connection with a commotion that occurred during the eviction of 37 terraced houses in Kampung Sungai Baru here, last Thursday.

Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, in a statement today, said the man was arrested to assist in investigations under sections 186, 353 and 324 of the Penal Code.

Last Saturday, it was reported that seven male suspects aged 15 to 50 were arrested in connection with the incident, and investigations found that they were not residents of Kampung Sungai Baru.

Following investigations, those arrested are believed to be leaders and members of an organisation.

In the incident, Sulizmie Affendy suffered a head injury, believed to have been struck by a stone thrown by an unidentified individual while helping to control the situation during an operation to disconnect the electricity supply to several houses in the area.

The operation was carried out pursuant to a court order for the demolition of house structures in Kampung Sungai Baru.
