PETALING JAYA:

Sabah will always belong to Sabahans though the state administrations and political parties governing the state may change over time, says a former chief minister.

Usukan assemblyman Salleh Said Keruak said the Bornean state did not exclusively belong to any particular political party, but Sabahans.

He added that Sabah joined Malaya, Sarawak and Singapore in forming Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963, thanks to the self-determination of the people of Sabah.

“Its true owners are the people of Sabah, from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, whether in the interior, the coasts, the islands or the towns.

“Political parties and governments are only temporary managers. They may change, but the true owners and guardians of Sabah remain the same.

“Sabah will always belong to the people of Sabah, from generation to generation,” he said in a Facebook post in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebrations tomorrow.
