ALOR SETAR: PAS has been accused of crossing the line by attacking Gerakan president Dominic Lau
Gerakan youth wing secretary-general Andy Tan said that such disrespect would harm the opposition Perikatan Nasional coalition.
“The comments made by Penang PAS election committee head Mohd Shafirul Rozani were destructive and slanderous,” he said.
On Saturday (September 13), Mohd Shafirul expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the Penang Perikatan Nasional chief.
In his speech, he urged the Perikatan leadership to consider appointing a new state coalition chairman who can perform well.
He likened the state Perikatan to a Ferrari or Lamborghini that cannot be driven because the steering wheel is in someone else’s hands.
“That is the situation now. Perikatan (in Penang) must be seen as working and taking charge. But if the chairman doesn’t know how to drive, the car won’t move even if it is brand new. It’s better for us to change the chairman,” he said.
The current Penang Perikatan chairman is Gerakan’s Datuk Dominic Lau.
Relations between PAS and Gerakan soured after Lau was named to contest the Malay-majority Bayan Lepas state seat during GE15.
Gerakan lost all 19 seats it contested during the polls.
Mohd Shafirul also asked PAS’ election committee to take a firm stand when choosing candidates to contest.
