PHNOM PENH: The Asean Bazaar 2025, hosted by the Malaysian Embassy in Cambodia, showcased how culinary delights can unite this diverse region.
It provided an ideal platform for Southeast Asian nations to present their rich mosaic of traditions, food, cultures and attire on Saturday.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn, said the colourful Asean Bazaar truly reflected the region’s cultural settings and its aspirations.
“Today’s celebration captures one of Asean’s exceptionalisms.
“We come from many histories and many languages.
“But we stand as one family in solidarity and a shared dream of peace and prosperity.
“The Asean Bazaar brings that spirit back; it is more than a cultural fair. It is a leading celebration of our common identity,” Sokhonn said at the event.
Member states presented their vibrant culinary landscapes at the embassy compound in Phnom Penh.
Guests enjoyed a wide range of gastronomic delights, from Myanmar’s ‘mohinga’ to Malaysia’s signature dish ‘nasi lemak’, Cambodian traditional snacks, and Indonesia’s spicy ‘nasi padang’.
Incoming Asean member Timor-Leste also took part in the one-day event.
Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Shaharuddin Onn said the bazaar went beyond a social gathering to reflect Asean bonding in Cambodia.
“It is a significant event; it symbolises and reflects Asean unity, solidarity and cooperation.
“Asean Bazaar is not merely a social event, it is a collective effort of all Asean and Timor-Leste embassies in Phnom Penh,” he said.
