MIRI, Sept 14 — Two people were injured when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a lorry along Jalan Pesisir Pantai, Bekenu, near here today.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said in a statement that an emergency call was received at 12.51pm, prompting a team from the Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Batu Niah) to be dispatched to the scene, about 23km away.
At the scene, Bomba operations commander Azizul Rahman reported that the car’s 38-year-old male driver and 17-year-old female passenger were trapped in the wreckage, while the lorry driver escaped unharmed.
“Rescue personnel extricated the victims using rescue tools. Both victims were successfully extricated and were handed over to the Batu Niah ambulance team for further treatment,” he said.
The Bomba team then conducted a cleanup to ensure the site was safe before returning to their station. — The Borneo Post
