NIBONG TEBAL, Sept 14 (Bernama) — There have been no reports so far of any misuse of MyKad in redeeming government financial aid distributed through the national identification card, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
“Yes, up to now there have been none (no reports), and the Ministry of Finance has also not informed of any such incidents. That is why the government currently views the MyKad mechanism as a good method to ensure that aid, especially cash or even nationality verification, is conducted through MyKad.
“… this is among the factors that will influence the choice of MyKad as the mechanism when the RON95 fuel subsidy at RM1.99 per litre is implemented. Further details on this will be announced by the Ministry of Finance,” he said.
He told this to reporters after officiating the Program Bersama Aktifkan Kesukarelawanan Teras Inspirasi (BAKTI) Komuniti MADANI event at Dataran Kuala Haji Ibrahim here.
Also present were Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and Information Department (JAPEN) Director-General Julina Johan.
Earlier, in his speech at the programme, Fahmi said the MyKad mechanism for aid and subsidies was highly efficient as the identification card is only held by Malaysian citizens.
“Only Malaysians are entitled to hold MyKad… So, when (any form of aid) uses MyKad, it will go directly, with no misappropriation, no leakage,” he said.
At the same programme, Fahmi officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for Laman Komuniti MADANI, built through local community gotong-royong (mutual cooperation), and also took time to engage with over 200 Komuniti MADAN members from the Seberang Perai Selatan district.
The BAKTI Komuniti MADANI Programme, organised by JAPEN, was held for the first time in Penang and aims to strengthen the landscape of volunteerism within the community while fostering togetherness and unity.
The event also featured various activities such as traditional sports competitions, colouring contests, and community services including free motorcycle oil change and haircuts.
Agro MADANI sales and local entrepreneurs’ stalls were also part of the programme.
