PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman has received reports from four politicians over blackmail attempts using artificial intelligence (AI) generated lewd videos.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the reports were lodged by Subang MP Wong Chen, Senator Datuk Nelson W Angang, Kulim state assemblyman Wong Chia Zhen and Sungai Petani MP Mohammed Taufiq Johari.

All cases had the same modus operandi, which included threats of spreading the so-called lewd videos if a cryptocurrency ransom of US$100,000 was not paid.

“All reports are being investigated under Section 385 of the Penal Code (putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“The police are also working together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to trace the email owner and obtain related information for further investigation,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 14).

Comm Kumar added that any party involved in producing, spreading, or using such material will face firm and comprehensive action.

“The police will not compromise with any party attempting to disrupt national security, public order, or harmony,” he said.
