PETALING JAYA:

Jealousy is believed to have driven a man to stab his wife and her male companion to death in a brutal attack that left the victims with a total of 28 stab and slash wounds in Guar Chempedak, Yan, in Kedah, on Thursday.

Kedah deputy police chief Baderulhisham Baharudin said the 28-year-old woman sustained 20 wounds to her chest, neck, arms and legs, while the male victim suffered eight stab and slash injuries to his chest, neck and back, Harian Metro reported.

According to Baderulhisham, jealousy was the likely motive as the suspect – who was arrested on Friday in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu – believed that his wife and the man were having an affair.

“Investigations confirmed that the suspect is the woman’s husband. The couple married in a neighbouring country in 2019 and have two sons aged two and four,” he was quoted as saying.

“The suspect had previously assaulted the male victim and was arrested last August. However, police released him on bail as the medical report was incomplete,” Baderulhisham said.

The 29-year-old suspect has a prior criminal record for voluntarily causing hurt and mischief under Sections 323 and 427 of the Penal Code, he added.

Police believe the suspect lured the victims to the scene of the crime in Taman Nona, Guar Chempedak, before killing them.

Police also recovered a 24cm knife believed to have been used in the killings, which was found in a bushy area in Sungai Petani shortly after the suspect’s arrest.

Earlier reports said the woman, identified as Nurul Nur Syamira Khamis, 28, was found dead inside a Proton Wira, while her male companion, Ku Asyraf Ku Shuib, 30, was found lying on the road about 7m away from the vehicle.
