SUBANG JAYA, Sept 14 — Subang MP Wong Chen today revealed he was the target of an attempted blackmail involving a fabricated sex video.

He said the threat was made through an email received at his parliamentary office on September 12, demanding a payment of US$100,000 via a QR code.

“The message said that I have been followed and spied upon for a long period of time, and that the person now has an incriminating sex video of me and that he or she will release the video in three days unless I make a payment,” Wong said.

“I also contacted YB Rafizi Ramli to share my experience with him, to which he said that he too had received the same blackmail, with a screenshot and a QR code too,” he added, referring to former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.

Wong confirmed a police report had been lodged at the Subang Jaya district headquarters, with officers interviewing him and his aide shortly after.

He said he later spoke to Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, who assured him that investigations had been initiated.

According to Wong, the blackmail attempt against him and Rafizi was “identical”, with only their faces altered in the photo used.

He attached redacted copies of the two images to his press statement, calling them “poorly executed blackmail attempts”.

Wong dismissed claims circulating on social media that his phone had been hacked.

“There is also a lot of false social media chatter out there that my handphone has been hacked and that a sex video was extracted from there. I asked the people who are spreading this to stop this false and fake news,” he stated.

Wong, who has served three terms as MP, said he had never faced blackmail before, adding that he now feels “less safe” as a government lawmaker than he did in the opposition.
