PETALING JAYA: Investigations into a counter-setting syndicate led to the seizure of around RM2mil in jewellery and gold pieces.

In a statement on their TikTok page, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said six people had been arrested under the operation dubbed Op Rentas.

A total of 3.2kg of jewellery worth RM1.6mil and 75 gold pieces worth around RM400,000 were seized during the raid.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said that the raids were conducted from Sept 9 to 11.

He said five of the suspects arrested were Immigration Department officers attached to the airport.

It is believed that they received bribes from agents as payment for easing the entry of foreign workers.

“The MACC also froze 70 bank accounts as well, leading to a total value of RM3.3mil in total assets seized,” he said.
