To date, the smallest commercially available laptop ever made is the MacBook Air, which discontinued back in 2016. Recently, a modder may have beaten the record by transforming his Lenovo Legion Go into a really compact laptop.

Reddit user MysteriousAlarm897 posted the fruits of his labour on the platform. Basically, they 3D printed a custom chassis, designed to hold the 8.8-inch tablet, sans the controllers, in place.

In all fairness, it’s far from the slimmest thing, but what it lacks in portability, MysteriousAlarm897 more than makes up with ports and other features. Firstly, they’ve added extra USB-C and USB-A ports on the side.

Second, they’ve also installed 190W worth of rechargeable batteries into the base of the chassis, directly underneath the compact keyboard. Third, the slot that holds the Legion Go is connected to the base with hinges. You know, just like a laptop, just that the connection between the console and the keyboard are all conducted via Bluetooth.

Interestingly, MysteriousAlarm897 also showed off a “slim” version of the casing. It shaved off an inch or so from the overall thickness, but as you’d expect, it does away with the extra ports.

Lenovo recently launched its next-generation Legion Go 2 console globally, with its starting price in Malaysia set at RM5,399. While it houses the more powerful Ryzen Z2 series chipsets, it also thicker and heavier than the original Legion Go.
