KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha, Qatar, on Monday (Sept 15) to discuss the Israeli attack on Qatar.
Wisma Putra said in a statement today that the Prime Minister will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and senior government officials from the ministry.
“The Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit will be attended by leaders and representatives of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States, and will be preceded by an Arab-Islamic Ministerial Preparatory Meeting on Sept 14,” it said.
It added that the Prime Minister’s participation in the emergency summit showed Malaysia’s full support for and solidarity with Qatar, as well as a continuation of Malaysia’s efforts in defending the rights of the Palestinian people and condemning the brutality and violence perpetrated by Israel.
Anwar is scheduled to address the Summit to reaffirm Malaysia’s firm stance on the urgent need to end Israel’s blatant violations of international law, including the United Nations Charter and state sovereignty, that threaten regional and global peace.
“The Summit is expected to adopt a Final Communique outlining collective actions and positions to address this issue,” it added.
On Tuesday (Sept 9), Israel bombed buildings housing several members of the Hamas political bureau.
The attack claimed the lives of five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer while they were discussing the latest proposals by the United States (US) to end the war in Gaza.
Qatar, the US and Egypt had previously been mediators in the discussions to end the conflict. — Bernama
