Flash floods hit central Melaka after heavy downpour

KUALA LUMPUR: Central Melaka was hit by flash floods following a heavy downpour earlier today.

In a video shared by Melaka Kini on Facebook, areas near Jejantas Tun Teja were seen inundated by floodwaters.

Checks on TikTok also found several videos uploaded by users showing flash floods in various parts of the city, including Kota Laksamana, Kota Syahbandar and Kampung Limbongan.

TikTok user kimnpeng_1016 shared a video of a flash flood in Kota Laksamana.

User @fiqh_qalamlab also shared a video of the situation.

“Heavy rain for an hour caused water levels to rise, covering several roads in Melaka city. The video was taken at noon,” said the user.

Many also questioned the maintenance of the drainage system in the affected areas, claiming that clogged drains had worsened the situation.

“The drains were clogged… full of rubbish. That’s the reason — no maintenance,” one user commented.
