BINTULU, Sept 13 — A man was killed while two others were seriously injured after a boat engine exploded at a workshop in Tatau yesterday afternoon.
Tatau police chief DSP Jame Reis said the incident occurred around 4pm when the three workers were carrying out repair works on the engine.
“The engine suddenly exploded during testing, sending shrapnel flying and hitting all three workers standing nearby.
“One was pronounced dead at the scene while the other two sustained serious injuries,” he said in a statement today.
According to Jame, CCTV footage obtained from the scene confirmed that the explosion happened abruptly during the repair process.
He said initial investigations found the case to be an accident with no criminal elements involved.
The case has been classified as sudden death (SDR).
The victim’s body was sent to Bintulu Hospital for a post-mortem, while the two injured workers were also taken to the same hospital for further treatment. — The Borneo Post
