ALOR SETAR: PAS is aiming to win at least 80 parliamentary seats in the next general election, says its vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.
His party had initially set a goal of winning 40 seats before the 15th general election, but it managed to secure 43 seats instead, he said.
“In the next general election, our target is 80 seats. We want to build on the 43 parliamentary seats we have successfully secured,” he told reporters after launching the 65th PAS Muslimat assembly at the Kedah PAS Complex here on Saturday (Sept 13).
On the Sabah state polls, he said PAS is aiming to contest in seven seats and admitted it will be hard for the party to form a government with Perikatan Nasional alone, considering the different political situation.
PAS, said Mohd Amar, also aimed to retain control of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis, where it currently leads the state governments.
Asked to comment on the PAS youth wing calling for the party to take the lead in Perikatan, he said that all parties have the freedom to make such a proposal.
“There is no problem but the parties within Perikatan will make the final decisions,” he said.
He also said there is no need to reveal its prime minister candidate as the final decision will be made by the King.
