Local Authorities Assure Public Park Toilets In Melaka Safe To Use

MELAKA, Sept 13 (Bernama) — Local authorities have assured that public toilets at recreational parks throughout Melaka are safe for use, and no reports of any untoward incidents have been received so far.

Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman said the MBMB technical team had inspected the Tun Fatimah Stadium in Bukit Serindit here following a viral video that raised public concern over alleged immoral activities at the site.

“No cases have been reported so far, and we assure the public that it is safe to use. The restrooms were built more than 10 years ago with a design that emphasises natural ventilation and lighting, and there is an annual allocation for phased upgrading works.

“We are also looking into upgrade plans, including better night lighting, drainage improvements, and enhanced toilet facilities, to ensure the comfort and safety of visitors at this recreational area,” he said after an inspection with Duyong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem at Tun Fatimah Stadium, Bukit Serindit, today.

Meanwhile, Mohd Noor Helmy said he took note of netizens’ concerns but assured that safety and facilities at the recreational park would continue to be improved, particularly for the comfort and security of women visitors, while ensuring no immoral activities take place there.

A 27-second video that went viral on TikTok yesterday sparked public concern, alleging that the design of the public restroom at Tun Fatimah Stadium could allow immoral activities such as voyeurism, especially after several chairs were spotted behind the building.
