Nurul Izzah: Sabah needs visionary leaders for next decade of development

SANDAKAN: Sabah needs representatives with a clear voice, vision and mission for development over the next five to 10 years to ensure the state is in a stronger position than it is today, said deputy president .

She said visionary leaders were crucial for Sabah, which continued to grapple with issues relating to development, infrastructure, citizenship, and the legacies of past administrations.

“During the Annual National Congress 2024/2025 (in May), I mentioned 13 seats targeted for contest in the Sabah state election, but we also depend on the voices of the people. The most important thing is to ensure that Keadilan, which has been in Sabah since 1999, continues to take root.

“For me, visionary leaders are essential. So it doesn’t really matter how many seats are contested, but in Pakatan Harapan’s policy, we want to ensure we serve as a voice that adds value to the people of Sabah,” she told reporters after attending the ‘Sabah Bersama Madani’ tour here today.

Meanwhile, she said Sabah was among the most mature states in demonstrating changes of government and, from early on, had been an inspiration to many in Peninsular Malaysia for its strong racial unity.

She added that the sentiment of voting for local parties was not an obstacle, as all the candidates fielded by the party in the 17th state election would be Sabah-born and would represent the people’s voices.

The 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly will dissolve automatically on Nov 11, unless dissolved earlier, paving the way for the 17th state election.
