Rat droppings found at unlicensed Penang shop run by foreigner

KUALA LUMPUR: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has confiscated goods and equipment from a foreign trader operating a sundry shop without a licence in the Northeast District.

During an operation on Thursday evening, MBPP’s Licensing Department and Enforcement Department raided the permanent stall, which was run by a male foreigner holding a UNHCR card.

MBPP officers also removed an unlicensed signboard during the operation.

It said that the stall had no valid licence issued under the local council’s jurisdiction, and the action was taken in line with the Hawkers By-Laws 1974.

During the raid, enforcement officers found rat droppings on two food display racks, raising food safety concerns.

“All merchandise and equipment seized cannot be reclaimed.

“Documentation and disposal of the confiscated items will be carried out according to standard operating procedures,” MBPP said in a statement today.
