A protest rally against the Urban Renewal Bill will be held by PAS Youth on Oct 4, says the youth wing’s chief, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden.
The protest will also be held in solidarity with the residents of Kampung Sungai Baru, following a commotion that erupted during evictions of residents there yesterday.
Afnan said the planned protest will come before the Dewan Rakyat sitting, to send a clear message that PAS rejects the bill and the eviction of Kampung Sungai Baru residents.
“The unity government today faces division in its ranks, for example in the matter of the Urban Renewal Bill, which has been rejected by seven PKR members. This shows the instability of the Madani government,” he said when winding up the PAS Youth delegates’ conference (muktamar) here today.
He also urged the public, especially PAS members, to campaign against US president Donald Trump‘s visit to Malaysia in protest against US support of Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
PAS should lead Perikatan Nasional
Afnan told reporters later that PAS Youth wants the party to lead Perikatan Nasional and the government, given the number of seats it holds in the Dewan Rakyat.
He said the matter will however still have to be discussed and a consensus obtained from coalition partners such as Bersatu, Gerakan and MIPP.
“The various leaders are making their proposals. Because we have many seats, we propose that we lead PN. Other parties would propose that they lead as well if they have as many seats as we do. This is normal,” he said.
