PENAMPANG: A man was arrested by police yesterday in connection with four mosque break-in cases.
The 25-year-old suspect was detained at a hotel in Tuaran.
District police chief superintendent Sammy Newton, said the suspect is believed to have been involved in four break-ins at houses of worship around the Putatan area, with estimated losses amounting to RM2,250.
He said that upon arrest, police also seized a motorcycle that had been reported stolen in Kota Kinabalu.
“The motorcycle is believed to have been used by the suspect in his criminal activities.
“A further search at the suspect’s residence led to the discovery of various tools believed to have been used for criminal purposes, as well as a sum of cash,” he said in a media statement today.
The suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code and Section 380 of the same act for housebreaking and theft in a building.
“In addition, the suspect is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse,” he said.
