SIBU: Two men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday (Sept 12) with the attempted murder of a man last month.

Lionel Kho Kwong Teck, 33, was charged with attempting to murder Lau Ang Ho by discharging a firearm at him at about 5.20pm on Aug 24 at the Jalan Penyangkai Majau-Kanowit junction, along Jalan Majau in Kanowit.

He was charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine, and if injury is caused, imprisonment of up to 20 years.

Meanwhile, Wong Sing Dieng, 51, was charged with abetting Lionel in committing the offence at the same time and place. He faces a similar charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 109.

In a separate case, Wong was also charged with self-administering dangerous drugs, namely amphetamine and methamphetamine, at the Sungai Merah police station, Jalan Wawasan, Sibu, at 11am on June 2.

The charge, framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234) and punishable under Section 39C(2) of the same Act, provides for imprisonment of between seven and 13 years and whipping of three to six strokes.

No pleas were recorded from the accused.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern who presided over the cases, fixed Sept 23 for further mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nuralisa Natasha Nazrulzam appeared for the prosecution, while both accused were unrepresented. – Bernama
