A solid waste management agency director has claimed trial at the sessions court here to 10 charges of assisting a firm to secure a government contract.
Zaidi Tuah, a director at Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) in Kuantan, was slapped with the charges drawn up under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
He is accused of receiving RM40,000 from an individual, with RM36,000 transferred into his bank account and the remainder paid in cash.
The prosecution claimed the sum was paid in exchange for facilitating the firm’s appointment as a waste management contractor in Kedah.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between Aug 8, 2019 and Sept 3, 2020.
If found guilty, Zaidi faces a jail sentence which can extend to 20 years and a fine of five times the sum involved.
Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud set bail at RM9,000 with one surety.
The court also ordered Zaidi to surrender his passport pending the disposal of his trial, and to report regularly to the MACC office in Kuantan.
On learning that Zaidi was still employed at the agency, Awang issued an order prohibiting him from accessing any documents, and from interfering with witnesses.
Zulfadli Azharudin prosecuted, while lawyer Thalia Rohaina Abdul Latiff appeared for Zaidi.
The court set Nov 13 for case management.
